We work mostly in partnership with primary schools to organise the nurture holidays. This is because we recognise that schools are often best placed to identify the children who will benefit most from a Harvest Trust holiday. However, we also work with some selected community organisations who we feel are able to organise a group and select children within our criteria. We provide minibus transport from the school and throughout the week, experienced holiday workers who lead the daily excursions, accommodation at the Holiday Centre, and cover the cost of all admissions and even ice creams! Harvest Trust funds all of this from our own resources and fundraising - we do not make any charge to schools or local authorities. The school selects twelve children for the holiday aged 8 - 11, and provides three members of staff to accompany them. As the holidays are run on a self-catering basis, the only financial contribution from the school is the purchase of the weeks groceries (around £300 in total).
Sometimes, if the partnership works well, we work with the same schools for a number of years. This gives them the chance to develop a good working relationship with us, and to benefit many more children over time.
